A young teenage boy tossed and turned in his bed in anticipation of his first day of High School as a sophomore. Unable to sleep, he consulted his father, who invited him to join him in watching the classic American film, “Citizen Kane.” He didn’t realize it, but this restless night was the first brick laid down in the path that would serve him for many years to come.
Born and raised in NYC, Chris Raffaele; always had an incredible imagination and was intrigued by all things creative, particularly film.
Chris studied creative writing in college and acting in NYC’s West Village. He also worked as an extra on film productions, bringing Chris to the second pivotal moment in his life. In 1992, Chris had the fortunate experience of working as a background actor on the Robert DeNiro film “Night and the City” and by the end of the day, Chris had found his calling.
Raffaele packed up his belongings and headed out west to Los Angeles, CA with the goal of learning all he could and to secure his place in the film industry. While working for a large production company in LA, Chris was exposed to and learned much about the “backend” of the industry. He also found mentors in Sharron and Lawrence Simeone who provided invaluable lessons on the topics of editing , directing and fostered Raffaele’s creativity.
It wasn’t before long that Raffaele’s creative and independent nature instinctively led him to writing, producing and directing his very own projects. The result: two critically acclaimed, award winning short films; Sally Boy and When I was a Child as well as his first feature film, The Grasslands; winning Chris global distribution.
Minimalistic was the motto when filming Raffaele’s most recent feature film The Dash, but make no mistake the final product is anything but. Filming in and around New York City on an extremely modest budget and time frame, and a cast and crew of that numbered not much more than 20 folks; The Dash tells the story of a struggling playwright who moves back into his childhood home , facing a series of compounding challenges. Told through perspective of Chris (the playwright) this film takes the audience on a lifetime journey through “every family’s” impasses all while evoking emotions that are categorically palpable.
The Dash, premiered globally in early summer 2016.
Raffaele latest feature film "The F3ar" has been screening in the NYC Metro area. Check out The F3ar Chatter on Facebook......and for info around upcoming screenings near you.
